Geography
At HFNIS, we offer a curriculum with a clear structure and sequence of lessons which ensures that all children are exposed to the skills required to meet the aims of both the high standards of the Early Years Curriculum and ambition of the National Curriculum. The content offered allows for a broader, deeper understanding of the four areas of Geography;
- locational knowledge,
- place knowledge,
- human and physical geography and geographical skills,
- fieldwork
The curriculum develops the children’s contextual knowledge of globally significant places and an understanding of human and physical geographical features of different parts of the world. We develop children’s curiosity of the world and of people. The units we teach across the school offer a range of opportunities to investigate different places around the world, building on skills and experiences each year from Nursery to Key Stage 1.
The lessons are planned to improve children’s geographical vocabulary, map skills and geographical facts and provide opportunities for consolidation, challenge, and variety to ensure interest and progress in the subject.
