Science
Our vision for science education is to provide a rich, engaging, and hands-on curriculum that builds on children’s natural curiosity and early experiences of the world. Through high-quality teaching of Science, we foster a love of learning and encourage children to explore, question, and make sense of the world around them.
We aim for all children to feel inspired, confident, and excited by science, leaving lessons eager to discover more.
In EYFS and Key Stage 1, our science curriculum is designed to develop children’s curiosity and understanding of the world through exploration and enquiry. It builds strong foundations for future learning by connecting new knowledge to children’s prior experiences.
We intend for children to:
- Develop curiosity and inquisitive thinking through questioning and exploration
- Engage in simple forms of Scientific Inquiry, such as observing, identifying, grouping, and comparing
- Experience practical, purposeful learning linked to real-life contexts
- Build and use scientific vocabulary to describe what they see and understand
- Take part in high-quality talk, sharing ideas and listening to others
- Begin to recognise and correct simple misconceptions through discussion and experience
- Make cross-curricular links, particularly with language development and early mathematics
- Access high-quality texts that support understanding of scientific concepts
Our curriculum ensures that all children develop both knowledge and early working scientifically skills appropriate to their stage of development within Science.
